PLANT ROOMS, SERVICE TUNNEL

BARLOCKART WIND FARM, FLINTSHIRE

Delivering protection from water and chemical ingress within the plant rooms and service tunnel of a turbine wind farm, southeast of Glenluce in Wales. The farm generates enough clean electricity to power over 4,400 homes, with a total CO2 saving anticipated to be
200,000 tonnes.

The challenge

To provide waterproofing to the concrete, as well as protecting the reinforcing steel from aggressive ground contaminants for the plant room and linked service tunnel of this safety critical project. Each wind turbine has a vertical blade tip height of up to 115m and a rotor diameter of up to 92.5m, with an installed capacity of between 2 and 2.5 megawatts.

The Xypex solution

The design engineers specified Xypex Admix as the stand-alone waterproof solution because of its proven track record in providing reliable protection from liquid penetration in high-risk environments. Xypex Admix was applied to waterproof the below ground plant room.

Xypex Admix C Series – Below ground plant room

Xypex Concentrate – Joints between day pours

Hydroswell Bentostrip – Joints between day pours

The results

The waterproofing solution was achieved simultaneously with the concrete placement so reducing construction time, increasing efficiency and reducing costs.
