BENSHAW HEBREW CONGREGATIONAL SYNAGOGUE

THE CHALLENGE

To supply cost effective water retaining structures with a long service life including for mikvahs that for religious reason cannot contain reinforcing steel and so would need to be poured using synthetic fibres but still warranted to be water retaining.

THE XYPEX SOLUTION

Xypex C Series Admix was used for mikvah cradles, mikvah liners, associated water tanks, the two below ground retaining walls and the ground floor slab.

To ensure all joints were waterproof Xypex Concentrate in conjunction with Hydroswell Bentostrip was used in all construction joints.

Xypex Admix C Series – Mikvah cradles, mikvah liners, associated water tanks, two below ground retaining walls, ground floor slab.

Xypex Concentrate – All construction joints and kicker joints.

Hydroswell Bentostrip – All construction joints, kicker joints and cast in penetrations

THE RESULT

Waterproofing and retaining structures were all done with the same Xypex C Series Admix simplifying both design and construction whilst removing the chance of incorrect material use on site. The contractor was able to place the concrete with Xypex Admix to best suit their construction program as there was no limit on the concrete pour size or aspect ratio which helped in keeping the build on schedule.
